The character recognition tool ArtSPen is intended for entering text in any program on your HPC. You only write symbols in any part of screen and ArtSPen translates them into typed text and enters on focused window(window having cursor). Symbol drawings (hereinafter shortcuts) must be entered without stylus take-off from screen. If shortcut was not correctly recognized you will listen warning sound. You may enter new shortcuts and edit available in the enclosing library to adjust recognition for your individual writing method. To increase recognition quality all characters are divided into four groups. <UL> <LI>English letters A..Z, a..z;</LI> <LI>National language symbols having codes from 128 to 255;</LI> <LI>Numeral symbols 0à9;</LI> <LI>Punctuation marks and special symbols * ? ╣ % ⌐ etc.</LI> </UL> Symbols: Caret Return, White space, Backspace, Comma(,) and Period(.) are recognized in all modes. <hr>  <CENTER><A NAME="uninstall"></A>Uninstallation.</CENTER> To uninstall ArtSPen you should make standard remove procedure twice. First stage will finished with message reporting to restart device. After restarting HPC by Reset button, repeat remove procedure "Control Panel > Remove program" to complete uninstallation. <hr>  <CENTER><A NAME="work_with"></A>Working with recognizer.</CENTER> <UL> <LI><A HREF="ArtSPen.htp#recognition_on">Turn on.</A></LI> <LI><A HREF="ArtSPen.htp#recognition_off">Turning off.</A></LI> <LI><A HREF="ArtSPen.htp#recognition_work">Recognizer usage.</A></LI> <LI><A HREF="ArtSPen.htp#option_dialog">Tuning.</A></LI> </UL> <hr>  <CENTER><A NAME="recognition_on"></A>Recognizer enabling.</CENTER> Run ArtSPen. If ArtSPen loaded successfully you will see icon: <IMG SRC="apen_off_icon.2bp" >. This icon shows, that recognizer turned off. In this mode you use pen for navigation and selection text possibilities. To turn recognizer on, select Pen On item from recognizer menu. After this recognizer's icon will changed to:<IMG SRC="apen_on_icon.2bp" > In this mode pen used to draw shortcuts with following recognition. <hr>  <CENTER><A NAME="recognition_off"></A>Recognizer disabling.</CENTER> You may use pen for direct drawing and writing in the notepad of Pocket Outlook applications. Shortcuts you drawing are intended to recognition should be entered closely similar to shortcuts are kept in library. You can write shortcuts on any part of the screen. Recognition begin immediately after pen lifting. Your drawing will be cleared and recognized text will be entered in the application at the cursor position. <hr>  <A NAME="selection"></A>Navigation and text selection. To change cursor position, you need to point its new location by short pen tap. To select text, you need to press and hold pen at the beginning of selection region until you hear special sound, then drag the pen to the end of selection. Recognition will be turned off for the next time you tap a pen. <hr>  <A NAME="switching_group"></A>Switching between recognition modes. You use the same shortcuts for upper-case and lower-case letters. However, to enter letter in uppercase you must first enter special shortcut "Shift":<IMG SRC="shift_sc.2bp" > If shortcut you wrote whole text string is attached, all characters in string will be capitalized. The next shortcut will be entered in low case if "Return to low case after one drawing" flag in the option dialog is checked, else you need enter "Shift" shortcut twice to reset recognizer to lower-case mode:<IMG SRC="2shift_sc.2bp" BORDER=0 HEIGHT=35 WIDTH=35> <hr>  <A NAME="enter_accents"></A>Accented letters entering. You can create accented characters by using special shortcuts after writing the letter you want to accent. If your device screen shows inks with jags, you may increase smoothing capability by moving slider to the right. If your device screen shows inks well, move slider to the left to increase drawing speed. </LI> </UL> <hr>  <A NAME="option_view"></A>View properties. To change symbol group, select appropriate group from recognizer menu. * If you want to use this shortcut in different groups, consecutively select new group and enter appropriate this group text. * Long alias and attached text strings will be truncated to 32 characters. <LI>Press OK button to save new shortcut in the library.</LI> </menu> <hr>  <A NAME="learn_delete"></A>Deleting shortcut. <UL> <LI>Press "Delete" button;</LI> <LI>In the appeared dialog, select alias of shortcut you want to delete from library</LI> <LI>Press OK button to save changes.</LI> </UL> <hr>  <A NAME="learn_edit"></A>Editing library. If you want to change text attached to appropriate shortcut: <UL> <LI>Press "Edit" button;</LI> <LI>In the appeared dialog select shortcut's alias, that attached text string you want to change;</LI> <LI>From recognizer menu select symbol group where you want change text;</LI> <LI>Enter new text;</LI> <LI>Press OK button to save changes.</LI> </UL> If you want to change shortcut and leave the text strings attached to this shortcut: <UL> <LI>Clear drawing window by pressing button "Clear";</LI> <LI>Draw here new stroke then press button "Add";</LI> <LI>In the appeared dialog select shortcut's alias, that drawing way you want to change;</LI> <LI>Press OK button to save changes.</LI> </UL> <A NAME="learn_test"></A>Recognition testing. You may test recognition of all shortcuts available in the library: <UL> <LI>Clear drawing window by pressing button "Clear";</LI> <LI>Draw shortcut here;</LI> <LI>Press "Test" button;</LI> <LI>You will see text attached to this shortcut if it was recognized successfully.</LI> </UL> *You will see alias if this shortcut has no text (Enter, Tab, BackSpace); *You will hear warning message if shortcut wasn't recognized; *Shortcut will not recognized if it hasn't attached text string in the chosen symbol group.  </BODY> </HTML>
